Kayla Asbell

Brooklyn-based Actor, Writer & Musician

Kayla Asbell is a Brooklyn-based actor, writer and musician. After graduating with a BFA in Drama with a Double Major in Journalism from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, she has been active in New York’s thriving experimental theater, film, and rock & roll music scenes.

Kayla is an Associate Artist with Theater Mitu, a New York based experimental, interdisciplinary theater company. With the company she has performed at many venues in NYC, including BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music), Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and the company’s very own space- Mitu580. She has also toured nationally and internationally with the company- and has performed on every continent save two— Antartica and Australia! She has been a co-creator on many of the company’s pieces and has conducted research as part of the creation process in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Israel, Egypt and across the United States. Kayla has also had the privilege of composing music for the company and even brought her band, The Othermen, to play live as a part of the company’s piece, Hamlet/UR-Hamlet, in Abu Dhabi.

Aside from her work with Theater Mitu, Kayla has performed extensively within New York’s experimental theater scene, including at Joe’s Pub (The Public Theater), HERE Arts Center, 3-Legged-Dog Arts & Technology Center, etc in new and innovative works.

Kayla has acted in many short films and music videos, and has recently begun doing voiceover work, including an audiobook available on audible.com called Tender Betrayal. (Be advised- it’s a steamy read!)

Kayla is also entrenched in NYC’s sweat-soaked rock & roll scene. She is a longtime member of garage-punk band, The Othermen, and is currently playing keys in the punk outfit, Bipolar. Her newest project, Thee Salivations, in which she will be singing and playing keys, will be ready to launch as soon as we escape this Twilight Zone episode called “Quarantine,” and can get back into the recording studio.
